The Killoren Campaign: Negotiations and conquest

As Rydar and his companions have reached the Killoren Settlement, they were rather welcomed cautiously. Daken-argas, the draconian cleric, and Leoric Stoneclaw, the catfolk monk, were able to talk to the leader of the Killoren Settlement. Rydar didn't join because he wasn't appointed to be a negotiator and he has resentment towards the Empire's intentions. Rydar awaits patiently while the draonic cleric and the catfolk continue their negotiations.

The Killoren Leader seems to have heard enough and retreats back to discuss the negotiations with his people's council. They discussed possibilities of surrending at the same time evacuating some of the Killoren to the mountains. The Killoren were promised to become part of the Empire rather than being slaves, for this was the reason why the Killoren are at war with the Empire. The council members had to make their the decision: yield to the promises of the draconian of "unity" or continue to hold ground against the Empire.

The Killoren leader emerged with an announcement to his people and to the negotiators. The Killorens have decided to surrender to the Empire, with the promises of the draconian of not being treated as slaves but as part of a growing nation. The Senestrians have gotten word of the surrender and have congratulated Daken for his efforts. Rydar, Leoric and Daken were told to return to the encampment and make preparations for the journey back to the captial. What seems to be a peaceful negotiation ended when the Senestrian officer sent an order... to burn the Killoren settlement down to the ground!

Rydar noticed a bright light behind him and smoke above at the same time. Looking burning, he was shocked to see the Killoren Settlement being burned down. Not a moment to spare, he immediately ran to the burning settlement. Upon reaching what is now a ruin, he broke into tears seeing the numerous dead bodies that the Empire's forces had caused. Rydar laments as he comes across one dead body after another and finds an item of interest: a pendant once belonging to a Killoren. He picks it up and keeps, as a reminder of this dreadful event. Lamenting more won't bring the dead back and Rydar returns to the encampment, not joining the camaraderie that the others are into. The Empire's armies are joyous to the conquest but Rydar doesn't feel the same, for the same thing has been done to his people before ending up as a gladiator and a soldier for the Empire.

The Killoren Campaign: Ambushed but rescued

While heading off to the Killoren Settlement with the dragonborn prisoner, Leoric and Rydar spotted a monkey-like creature jumping around forest. Within minutes, more of them appeared and ambushed both the catfolk and the centaur. Rydar had to remove the wagon harness to freely manouver as Leoric already had his hands full.

These monkey-like creatures are small in size but attack in groups of five. They resemble capuchins with a tiny mouth. Even if they attack savagely, they seem intelligent to use their surroundings to get the upper hand in a fight and for catching potential prey.

Rydar did his best to defeat these monkeys. Numerous times he tried to shake them off and succeeded a few times, with one being killed off by his spear. These monkeys proved too much as Rydar as the dragon prisoner was dragged away by another group of monkeys. As for Rydar, he eventually beaten up and the monkeys celebrated their win over the centaur. Realizing defeat would happen, Leoric did he best he can to avoid capture as Rydar and the dragonborn prisoner were dragged away by the monkeys.

Hours have passed and Rydar has regained consciousness, only to find out that he is still tied up up by the same monkeys that defeated him. He also see a big number of them, surrounding him. He sees the monkeys chattering and hopping while a few of them dig a a hole in a nearby clearing. Rydar also notices their tongues coming out of their tiny mouths. It looks like the monkeys are planning to eat him! The monkeys have finished digging a hole big fit Rydar and they started dragging the centaur into it. As Rydar was all set in the hole, the monkeys started throwing fruits and leaves at him. These monkeys do have taste in eating their prey and they prepare for the final step in their cuisine: cooking their prey! The fire spreads after they have managed to create a spark by rubbing rocks continuously.

As Rydar braces to become centaur meat, a flying creature swoops down and grabs him with all his might. Draken-argas has come to the rescue! Though Rydar is safe from being sweet centaur meat, both the flying dragonborn and centaur still have to deal with the lush forest and land safely. They hit branches here and there but the were able to land safely with the reinforcements they have brought. Leoric led the force to the spot where Rydar was about to be cooked. The monkeys recognized him and reacted violently. However, these monkeys were scared as they saw Leoric's army and fled the scene as soon as possible. They were able to recover their prisoner back.

Rydar was indeed thankful that he was not abandoned, though he failed to protect the prisoner and reach the Killoren Settlement as planned. Nevertheless, Draken-argas decides to bring him along after all what has happened. Draken's group, consisting of himself, Rydar, Leroic, Hissan the Senestrian Cleric and their dragonborn pirsoner, finally made it to the Killoren Settlement where they were welcomed cautiously...

The Killoren Campaign: Interrogations and preparations

Evening has approached and camp was set up for the Empire's army in their campaign against the killoren. Rydar himself was wandering around the camp while Leoric and Draken interrogate the captured dragonborns. Draken was driven for the fact the Empire wanted peace throughout the continent of Cyrden. The whole interrogation was spoken in Draconic but Leoric understood it well. Rydar tried to eavesdrop on the conversation but he doesn't have the knowledge of the Draconic language. However, his attention increased when he thought he heard the word "Centaur" during the conversation. Leoric, being a good companion of Rydar, was able to translate the conversation for Rydar to understand.

After the interrogations, Leoric, Draken and Rydar assembled in a tent to discuss the plan on locating the Killoren Settlement and negotiating with the killoren settlers to join the Empire. When dicussing how to transport the dragonborn prisoner, Rydar objected to the idea that the prisoner should ride on his back. Draken felt insulted on Rydar's objection and searched for another centaur willing to carry the task. As a centaur, being used as a mount is considered degrading and this is Rydar's sole reason why he refused the idea in front of Draken. Wanting to give Rydar a second chance, Draken asked him to meet him at a moonlit clearing, not far from camp. Draken discussed the importance of operation and Rydar was able to come up with an alternative that wouldn't insult the centaur's dignity of being used as a mount: to pull a wagon with the prisoner on it. Draken agrees to the centaur's suggestion but reminded Rydar to respect him, as he was of a higher rank, in front of his subordinates.

Next morning, Leoric and Rydar were assigned to head out the location of the Killoren Settlement. Leoric scouted the area ahead with Rydar following behind, strapped with the wagon containing the dragonborn prisoner. During their travel, they have come accross some animals of the wild...

A quick recap: The Killoren Campaign

Since I did not attend a game some time ago, I was given an update of what happened:

Rydar (Centaur Fighter), Leoric (Catfolk Monk) and Draken-Argas (Dragonborn Druid) became well-known and feared gladiators as time passed. Soon, they were recruited to join the ranks of an army to siege a Killoren Settlement. Leoric actively participated in the battle knocking out (not killing) his opponents during a skirmish. Two dragonborns, one being a paladin and the other being an elemental, were captured and are to be interrogated in revealing the location of the Killoren Settlement.

As a prequel to the game I participated, here's what I can remember...

A killoren council has gathered in their meeting room and discussed about the recent skirmish as this raised concerns on their long struggle against the Empire. They have commented on three notable soldiers of the Empire's army: a catlike creature that uses his bare claws to strike but does not kill his opponents, a four-legged creature whom a few killoren are familar with and a gold-scaled dragon who seems to have led the army. The also discussed what would be their next move should the Empire's army succeed in locating their settlement. The main plan was to evacuate the women and children to the mountains while standing ground in the original settlement. As night approaches, camp was set up by the Empire's army as they campaign continues...

Intro post with summary of my very first adventure!

Hello, fellow D&D'ers! I opened up this blog to serve as my public archive and repository for all my D&D adventures. To start off, here's a summary of my very first adventure:

I am a level 2 Fighter Centaur named Rydar Tryx who happens to be a member of a great tribe of Centaurs, lead by my father Tyrax. One day, an army of orcs, lead by creatures called "Senestrians" (it's a Naga-like creature in this adventure), invaded our homeland. Out on a scouting patrol with my father and a few of his best men, we engaged a small group of orcs. Rydar had defeated four orcs but was heavily wounded by a fifth orc. Collapsing to the ground, Rydar saw his father being brutally killed from a distance. Rydar screams out to his father but eventually loses consciousness. Being a large creature, Rydar was carried away in a net with four orcs bearing the load.

Rydar had regained consciousness and saw that he was locked inside a huge cage, enough just to accommodate one captive. He realized that he was on a ship, traveling to another continent. Looking around, he spotted a bird-like creature with its wings clipped. He had encountered a dragon-like creature with wings, had an eye patch and can stand on his two legs.

After time passed, a caravan with Rydar, other captive creatures and their captors traveled through a desert. A sandstorm was approaching and the caravan stopped at a cave until the sandstorm passed. Time yet passes again and the caravan finally arrives at a plaza where the captives, including Rydar, where sold. Bidding for Rydar started at 10 gold pieces, with increments of 10 gold pieces every passing bid. Eventually, a goblin won the auction by 50 gold pieces.

The goblin, known as Mirak, took Rydar and the goblin explained his interest in the centaur. Rydar now realizes he is an another region, far from his homeland. Mirak educaated Rydar about gladiator fights and why Rydar must participate in the events held inside the colloseum.

Rydar was introduced to the inner walls of the colloseum, underneath the main arena. There, many schools train captured and seasoned creatures from all of the world to participate in matches that happen on the main arena. Rydar replied to his "master" that meaningless bloodshed wasn't the way of the centaur. Mirak reminded him that freedom awaits those who are victorious. Rydar has met a lot of creatures along the way and one in particular: a catfolk who goes by the name of Leoric Stoneclaw. Although Mirak had described him as a loner, Rydar was able to get acquainted with the lone catfolk. After the introductions, Rydar rested for the remainder of the day.

The next day, Rydar gets to spar on a training and he is paired with Leoric. Even with Rydar's huge size, he was surprised that he couldn't fight Leoric back. Leoric's strike were too fast and too many, though they are weak. Rydar did the best he can with his spear fighting but could be barely hit the nimble catfolk, aside from a lucky hit with the Centaur Trample. In the end, Rydar lost against Leoric in the spar and the centaur was amazed how amazing Leoric was. Leoric helped Rydar get into his feet. The day ended and Rydar went to rest for the remainder for the night.

Another day has passed and Rydar will finally get his first taste of battle in the arena. However, a special match was going to happen: a 2-vs-2 battle. Rydar happens to be paired up with Leoric and both were taken into the main arena. Their opponents: 2 level 3 fighter gnolls each with a weapon of choice. Rydar was selected to battle the gnoll wielding a flail and shield while Leoric took the latter, who has equipped with a sword in each hand. The battle went on with Leoric defeating his opponent first and eventually helped out Rydar. The centaur fought with all the strength he had but stumbled at one time and decided to get regain his composure. This caused his gnoll opponent to get a free hit but in the end, Rydar stood victorious as he laid the last blow on his gnoll opponent. The crowd cheered and showed a gesture of a thumb pointed upwards with the other fingers closed. It was a sign that the defeated gnolls were spared of death.

The night after the match, Mirak reminded Rydar that these fights were for the centaur's freedom as Rydar contemplates that honor existed within the arena. Rydar retires for the night, not knowing when the day of his freedom will arrive.
