Book 3: An unexpected attack

Days have gone by after the fall of the Killoren Settlement and Rydar still reflects on the night that he would never forget. While marching back to the Empire capital, he contemplates on the locket he had found amongst the lifeless killoren bodies. An orc noticed the pendant and is amazed that Rydar had treasure.

The draconian squad noticed a sandstorm approaching and they had to find a means to protect the whole army since it would take an enormous amount of the time for the whole army to return to the capital. While the ground forces were digging, the draconian squad prepared to block off the sandstorm, led by Daken-argas. The sandstorm was only delayed, not stopped.

While the draconian squad kept trying to find a permanent solution in sheltering the army from the sandstorm, the ground forces suddenly felt a sinking sensation from the sand. The army realized too late as the sand collapsed below them and plummeted to an underground cavern. The fall was about 50 feet that many of the ground forces sustained injuries including Rydar as well. The draconians were able to soften their fall as Leroic did the same, since he was an agile monk.

The underground caverns did provide protection from the occuring sandstorm. The cavren did have many holes and anyone small enough to fit in them were ordered to investigate. Rydar had to wait as the selected soldiers checked the holes. After a few minutes, many of the soldiers who entered the holes came rushing out. As it turns out, multitude of worm-like creatures with claw-like mandibles erupted from the numerous holes around the cavern and attacked the army.

This was a difficult task for Rydar as he was outnumbered by these creatures and had a hard time to shurg off the worm-like creatures. Death almost came upon him but for some reason the creatures backed off and retreated, while taking some of the unfortunate troops with them as their food. The sandstorm has lifted by the time the creatures were no longer in sight. Daken-argas lifted both Rydar and Leoric out of the cavern. Weeks have passed and the survivors finally returned to the capital...
